Discussion Questions

1. Why is "the individual" important?

2. Do individuals need help from government? Should

"help" be imposed on people or be optional? Does government know how to run our lives better than we might? Defend your answer.

3. David Boaz talks about ways that there used to be social protections (or a type of "welfare") without government. Do you think this would work today? Does this type of help have to come from government? Why or why not?

4. Boaz argues that government laws and regulations can actually facilitate racism. What does he mean by this and what were some of his examples? Do you agree or disagree?
