Discussion Questions

1. What is “energy independence”? Robert Bryce argues that we are a “global economy” and that independence would hinder us more than help us. Do you agree or disagree? Defend your answer.

2. For years, politicians have been telling us we are running out of oil. Why haven’t we yet? Defend your answer. How do Stossel’s guests explain this fact? Do you agree or disagree with their assessment?

3. Were you aware that most of our oil comes from right here in America and from countries such as Canada? Most of the people that Stossel interviewed at the gas station did not know this. Why do you think this isn’t more common knowledge? Should people be aware of it? Why or why not?
