Discussion Questions

1. What does "secede" mean? Should people have the right to do this? Why or why not?

2. How might a right to secede balance the power between government and its citizens? Would governments have to take citizens' concerns and needs more seriously if dissatisfied citizens could easily break away?

3. The United States was born by seceding from England. Should the American colonies have been forced to remain as British colonies? How might the world be different today if that had happened?

4. "Let people be." Should there be any restrictions to this or is this an absolute statement? Defend your answer.
