Discussion Questions

1. Put yourself in the mindset of an employee. Should government assure that you're getting paid a certain amount for extra work? Why or why not? Then put yourself in the mindset of a business owner and ask the same question. Is your answer the same as above? Why or why not?

2. Can you think of an alternative to these government regulations? What would give employers incentives to reward their employees for working hard? Do any incentives already exist? If so, what?

3. Liya Palagashvili argues these regulations hinder people getting hired for jobs in the first place, especially in the non-profit sector. Do you agree? Why or why not? Is it worth the risk? Defend your answer.

4. Should people be allowed to work overtime without being paid extra, if they choose to? What are the drawbacks of this? What are the benefits?
